Self-worth and how to be compassionate towards yourself

Everyone defines their self-worth in their own way. The problem arises when people start defining you based on their definition of self-worth. Doing something like this makes people try to be something better at something they don’t want to be, just to validate the other people. When we fail to do so, we end up feeling inadequate and feeling we haven’t done anything worthy. At times like these, it’s important to show self-compassion towards oneself.

What is self-compassion?

It’s about being warm and understanding toward ourselves when we fail, suffer or feel inadequate, rather than self-criticism.

We can be compassionate towards ourselves by showing self-care. Oftentimes, we forget self-care by saying we don’t have time for it. But it eventually it leads to burnout, which really doesn’t help us. You must give self-care in the four aspects of life — emotional self-care, physical self-care, social self-care, and also spiritual self-care.

Examples of emotional self-care:

  • Learn to say no
  • Schedule times for yourself where you do whatever the hell you want.
  • Reward yourself for completing small tasks
  • Stop being your harshest critic. Allow yourself to make mistakes

Examples of physical self-care:

  • Take a walk
  • Drink more water
  • Go out and spend 10 minutes under the sun
  • Go to bed early

Examples of social self-care:

  • Avoid toxic people
  • Ask for help
  • Call a trusted friend or family member and talk things out.

Examples of spiritual self-care:

  • Make time for meditation in your day
  • Help someone in some way

Your meaning of self-care might be different, and that is totally okay. Everyone relaxes in a different way.

To become content with yourself, it is important to be compassionate towards yourself and accept the fact you have done mistakes. It’s all about showing unconditional love my dudes. Doing something for yourself might make you feel like you are doing something wrong, but you aren’t. Caring for yourself helps you relax, look at things and acknowledge your mistakes. Please do self-care, it really helps. I hope you care about yourself at least in the emotional way, or the physical way if you can’t do them all.
